Trade in Services

Description

Program Description:

The service sector is the largest contributor to developing countries’ gross domestic product, production and employment rates. There is a growing number of agreements such as the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) that have already achieved a vital progress in this area, and currently regional agreements like PAFTA and COMESA are moving towards exempting more sectors from value-added taxes to help more service providers access international markets.

Program Objective:

The purpose of this program is to help trainees understand the general principles governing trade in services as well as the different obligations on service providers in Egypt to access international markets. The program covers the nature of benefits (whether exemptions or reductions) available but also the procedures and documents required for companies to access new potential export markets. The program will also help trainees keep track of all the recent developments and trade in service agreements, as well as how they could leverage each to ensure their services travel to foreign markets at the right time with less financial constraints.
