Trade Remedies (Safeguard, Anti-dumping, Subsidy)

Description

Program Description:

The WTO as well as all agreements uphold principles to ensure the smooth flow of trade in goods. However, in some circumstances, derogations may occur that can threaten local manufacturers and result in unfair competition; this is why the WTO has signed the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures to regulate trade practices through safeguard measures and policies relating to anti-dumping and countervailing.

Program Objective:

The purpose of this program is to familiarize trainees with trade remedy practices such as anti-dumping, countervailing measures and safeguards, as well as their impact on trade activities. The program will teach trainees the different mechanisms of protecting local production in cases of dumping, as well as the different survival tools to help local manufacturers expand their market share in the presence of foreign competitors. The program will also help trainees learn how to file a dispute against unfair trade practices, facilities and bodies to reach out to, and finally how to settle disputes to ensure continuity in local markets.
